Willie Clay Walton passed away at his home in Holdenville on Friday, April 7, 2017, at the age of 79 years.
Willie was the son of Earnest Clark 'Dick' Walton & Elba Virginia (Langdon) Walton, born on March 4, 1938 in Holdenville, Oklahoma. He was brought up in the Spaulding community, and graduated Spaulding High School with the Class of 1957. He joined the U.S. National Guard and transferred into the regular Army, where he served more than twenty years in various places, including Germany, Okinawa, and Vietnam. His military service was varied, from assisting in dental service to flying as Army air security. While stationed in Germany he married Rose Schmidtt, and they were blessed with three daughters: Tammy, Donna, and Anita. Willie returned to Oklahoma when he retired from military service, and owned and operated Willie's Backhoe & Dump Truck Service. He purchased the Turf Club and later the Pink Panther, popular local bars that he turned over to the management of his daughter, Donna, when he retired in 1985.
Willie's favorite things were playing softball, fishing, and restoring old cars, especially Fords. He loved people, and very much enjoyed the company and conversation of people visiting his clubs. He was much loved and will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dick & Elba Walton; one daughter, Donna Kelly, in 2006; two brothers, Cecil Walton and Charles Walton, and one sister, Bonnie Mayfield; first wife and mother of his children, Rose Walton.
He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Tammy & Allen Sweeden, and Anita Hill, all of Holdenville; seven grandchildren: Billy Boren, Amber Jones (Michael), Ashley Rambo (Cody), Cody Butler (Kyleigh), Ty Watters (Areshia), Tanna Watters, Rowdy Hill, all of Holdenville; six great grandchildren: Riah Rogers (T. J.), Mattylyn Jones, Jaxley Babb, Hayden Watters, Westin Rambo, Avery Dylan Butler, all of Holdenville; one brother, Howard Walton and wife Joquita of Holdenville, and two sisters, Betty Carpenter of Springtown TX and Alice Cofer and husband Dave of Holdenville; Army buddy and dear friend, Bill Long, of Lawton; numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at the Holdenville Cemetery Chapel, and Willie was laid to rest in the Holdenville Cemetery, with Rev. John Roberts officiating.
