Obituary

Benjamin Wayne McGeeley passed away at his home north of Holdenville, Oklahoma on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at the age of seventy-four years.

Wayne is the son of Louis McGeeley Sr & Ida (Harjo) McGeeley, born on October 7, 1950, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. He was brought up in the Salt Creek community north of Holdenville, where he lived his entire life. Although dealing with disabilities, Wayne enjoyed a full and happy life. He attended Yeager schools. He was involved in many and various activities, and throughly enjoyed every one of them. He was an active member of Salt Creek Methodist Church and he loved going to church, ringing the bell, and helping with taking up the collection. He loved working with his father and he spent many hours helping George Bruner with his garden and his cattle. He was happy to work on various projects with his Uncle Ben and brother-in-law Jimmy Taylor. He was gifted with a keen appreciation of learning, and an amazing memory. He was a wealth of information relating to dates or times such as birth/death dates and dates/times of historical events, and he could easily name all the Presidents. He was fluent in the Creek language. He had a zest for life and a particular love for hard candy. He was happiest spending time with family and friends, and loved family gatherings. Since his father's death forty-five years ago, his older sister Idalene has cared for him in her home. He will be deeply missed.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Louis & Ida McGeeley; three brothers: Beaver Ward, Robert McGeeley, and Louis McGeeley Jr; one niece, Ida 'Tiny' Taylor; brother-in-law, Jimmy Taylor.
