Vernon Edgar Bass passed away at his home in Eufaula, Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon, April 19, 2020, at the age of 83 years.
Vernon was the son of William Henry Bass & Ruby Louis (Pickering) Bass, born on January 27, 1937, in Wewoka, Oklahoma. The family lived in Illinois when he was in 1st grade then returned to Wewoka, where he attended Wewoka schools from 2nd through 12th grade, and graduated Wewoka High School with the Class of 1955. He moved to Ada and attended East Central State Teachers College, and after one year had to leave college and go to work due to his father's illness. He served his Country for two years in the National Guard, and for eight years in the U.S. Navy.
He married Kaylene McQueen on July 25, 1964, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He began a long and varied career in the medical field, and worked for a while at Weleetka Hospital and Okmulgee Hospital. After going back to school part time, he worked for twelve years at Wewoka Hospital. He worked several years for Guthrie Job Corps Lab, and opened a lab in Oklahoma along with two doctors, called PNHA. He worked in marketing for St. Anthony Hospital and pharmaceutical labs, and he worked for a medical supply company. He retired at 62 in 1998, purchased land on Lake Eufaula, and moved there in the late 1990s. He loved to hunt and fish.
Vernon was a member of the American Medical Technologists (AMT), and served the organization as President and as Central District Counselor. He was a member of the Logan County Board of Directors. He was a member of the Lions Club and served as President. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Guthrie, and served on the church board.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William & Ruby Bass; two sisters, Ida Brixie and Vada Voyles; four brothers: Walter, Freddy, and twins.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kaylene, of the home; four children: Mike Bass of Tulsa, Mitchell Bass (Becky) of Wetumka, Kellie Boolin (Jeramy) of Allen, Mark Bass of the home, and Belinda Gatto of Missouri; sixteen grandchildren, numerous great and great great grandchildren; other family members, and many friends.
Viewing at the funeral home was on Tuesday, April 21, 2:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m., and on Wednesday, April 22, 10:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m.
Private family services were held, and Vernon was laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka on Thursday, April 23, 2020. Pallbearers were Mike Bass, Mitch Bass, Mark Bass, John Bass, Dakken Bass, and Ryon Langrehr.
