Obituary

Vera Mildred (Swetnam) Mooney passed from this life on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at Valley View Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma, at the age of 93 years.

Vera was the daughter of George & Dollie (Williams) Swetnam, born on September 9, 1916 at Non, Oklahoma, where she lived her entire life. She attended Pleasant Ridge schools until her marriage a few months before her 16th birthday. She was married to Abraham Gideon Mooney in Ada, Oklahoma, on April 28, 1932. They were blessed with one son and four daughters, and enjoyed 54 happy years together before he passed away on December 15, 1986.

Vera is preceded in death by her parents, George & Dollie Swetnam; her beloved husband, Abraham Gideon Mooney; one grandson.

She is survived by her five children: George Hugh Mooney of Non, Oklahoma, Mary Francis Guinn of Coalgate, Oklahoma, Joann Baldwin of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Norma Burditt of Jenks, Oklahoma, and Brenda Mooney, who took care of her mother all her life, of the home in Non; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren; numerous people adopted as her children, all of whom she loved dearly, including Dale Long, her adopted son who called her several times a day.

Vera was a member of a Free Will Baptist Church for 80 years. She loved to do quilting and hand work. She loved working her garden and sharing with everyone. She loved everybody, and was very much loved in return.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2010, at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church in Allen, Oklahoma, and Vera was laid to rest in the Non Cemetery. Rev. Earl Scroggins, Rev. Lonnie Palmer, and Rev. Doug Carey were the officiating ministers. Pallbearers were Jerry Tollett, David Byrd, Tommy Orr, Delbert Harden, Bill Chisum and R. C. Brewer. Honorary pallbearers were Dale Long, Bill Griffin, Ronnie Janda, Robert Hammond, Charles Henry, Danny McDougal, Darrell Janda, David Tinkler, Paul Prentice, Eddie Prentice, and John Tatum.
