Troy Wayne 'Pete' Mathis passed away at the age of 74 at his home in Canadian, Oklahoma on Monday, March 9, 2026 with his family by his side.

Troy is the son of Gus Dean Mathis and Eupha Glee (Chaffin) Mathis, born on December 4, 1951 in Holdenville, Oklahoma.   When he was a young boy he received his nickname Pete.

Troy was brought up and attended school in Calvin, Oklahoma.  He served in the United States Air Force from December 29, 1971 to November 12, 1976 receiving an honorable discharge. He worked as a natural gas pumper and mechanic for 30+ years.  He married Dena (McDonald) Mathis on May 6, 1977.  Pete enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He loved to fish, hunt, garden, search for arrow heads and trapping.

Troy is preceded in death by his father Gus Dean Mathis, mother Eupha Glee Mathis, sister Barbara Rivers, brothers Bud Mathis and sister-in-law Carolyn, and brothers Sam, Jerry, and Wallace Mathis.

Pete is survived by his wife Dena Mathis of Canadian, Oklahoma, brother Benny Mathis of Calvin, OK, brother Joel Mathis of Calvin, OK, sister Marsha Mathis of Atwood, OK, brother in law Chester Rivers, sister in law Janet Ford, children Shane Mathis and wife Janet of Justin, Texas, Seth Mathis and wife Tammy of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Amanda Thomas and husband Shawn of Canadian, Oklahoma, and Gus Mathis and his wife Kaisha of Purcell, Oklahoma.

Grandchildren Allon Mathis of Cortez, Colorado, Michael Mathis of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Sierra Mathis of Justin, Texas, Jakob Mathis and his wife Alyssa of Stillwater, OK, Joshuah Mathis and his wife Ally of Perkins, OK, Caleb Thomas of Muskogee, OK, Dakota McGonigal and her husband Eric of Tulsa, OK, Hannah Pursley of Canadian, OK, and Gunner Mathis, Gage Mathis, Kimber Mathis of Purcell, OK,

Great Grandchildren Elijah, Walker, Miles, Trynton, Alexandyr, Elliana and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026 at The Nazarene Church in Atwood, OK with Daniel Morrison officiating.

Pallbearers were Jakob Mathis, Joshuah Mathis, Caleb Thomas, Eric McGonigal, Robert Allen and Cody Selman.

Honorary Pallbearers were Gage Mathis, Gunner Mathis, Kimber Mathis, Allon Mathis, Michael Mathis, Sierra Mathis.
