Tootsie Mae Brown passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Friday, January 7, 2022, at the age of 75 years.
Tootsie was the daughter of Joe & Polly (Tebe) Brown, born on September 27, 1946, in Sasakwa, Oklahoma. She was brought up on the Brown family farm in Hughes County. She attended Yeager and Wetumka schools, and was a graduate of Wetumka High School. In her younger years, she excelled in softball and basketball, and had a lifelong love of sports. She was a member of Salt Creek Methodist Church, where she served in various positions including Women's Leader and Lay Leader. She enjoyed all sports, especially OU softball. Tootsie lived in the Holdenville area, mostly at the family homeplace, all her life. She was greatly loved, and will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe & Polly Brown; three sisters: Josephine Brown, Mollie Brown, and Ruth Brown, and one brother, Buster Brown; nephews, Willie Chupco and Harold Nelson and niece Carol Jackson.
She is survived by one sister, Wisey Mae Brown, of the home, and one brother, Larry Brown, of Holdenville; great niece Melinda Chupco (Alex Harjo), and great great nephew Randall Al-Dabbagh, all of Holdenville; six nieces, Jessie Brown of Holdenville, Sharon Brown of Seminole, Lilly Nelson of Oklahoma City, Ronda Underwood of Harrah, Gwendolyn Weintraub of Spencer, and Jackolyn Briggs of Oklahoma City; eight nephews: Steve Brown of Norman, Chris Brown, Jeff Brown, both of Seminole, Ron Brown of Midwest City, Chester Nelson, Charles Nelson,and Ruford Nelson, of Oklahoma City, and Larry Nelson of Arizona; great nephew Mark Jackson; various other family members and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, 1:00 p.m. at Salt Creek Methodist Church north of Holdenville, and Tootsie was laid to rest at Brown Family Cemetery in Holdenville. Officiating ministers were Rev. Paul Fixico, Rev. Mike Deere, and Rev. Louis McGeeley Jr. Pallbearers were Brandon Robinson, Wayne Robinson, Adam Yahola, Tommy Taylor, Jesse Long, and Ray Dyer. Honorary Pallbearers were Jimmy Taylor, Jason Tiger, and Leon Morgan.
Wake services were held on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 7:00pm at Salt Creek Methodist Church.
