Obituary

Tommy W. Black passed away in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Thursday, November 24, 2016, at the age of 77 years.

Tommy was the son of Ed & Lucille Black, born on August 8, 1939, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, where he was brought up and attended schools. He graduated from New Lima High School in 1957, and went to Tulsa Welding School. He married Marchetta Annett Jones in Wewoka on August 3, 1958, and worked for the local Dairy until the Spring of 1959 when Marchetta graduated from Wewoka High School. Right after graduation, Marchetta took off her cap and gown, jumped into Tommy's 1-ton welding rig and off they went to start their lives as a welder and his wife. Thus began Tommy's lifelong career as a proud pipeline member of Local 798. He retired in 1996 but remained a lifelong member of the union. After traveling the country for many years, Tommy & Marchetta returned to their home in Wewoka. Tommy loved playing his keyboard and going once a week to the local pick & play at Bud McCoy's house. He was a longtime member of Midway Baptist Church, and his favorite thing was taking up the offering at the church.

Tommy is preceded in death by his father, Ed Black; his mother and stepfather, Lucille & Charles Hoglan; his brother, Edgar Gene Black.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marchetta Black; their son and daughter-in-law, Travis & Shelly Black; their grandson Woodrow Black, and granddaughter Stephanie Black; other family members, and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 28, 2016, 2:00 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home's Lillye Chapel, and Tommy was laid to rest at Holdenville Cemetery, with Rev. Frank Moppin officiating. Pallbearers were Woodrow Black, Roy Williams, Michal Sanford, Buster Venable, Johnny Venable, and Derek Puckett. Honorary Pallbearers were Tommy Robison, Richard Nolen, and Bud McCoy.
