Tom
Janes
March 3, 1960 – October 10, 2023
Thomas David 'Tom' Janes passed from this life in Oklahoma City and went to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the age of 63 years.
Tom was the son of William B. Janes & Frenola 'Fronie' (Sanders) Janes, born on March 3, 1960, in Holdenville, Oklahoma, where he was brought up, attended schools, and made his lifelong home. He was a man of many talents and abilities, but he was dedicated most of all to being a Friend to everybody he met and to helping and encouraging anybody he could. He married the perfect companion for his outlook on life, Rhonda Orsburn, on May 3, 2002 in Holdenville. He worked for many years at various occupations including work in the oil field, setting up tents and seating for graveside services for funeral homes in the area, and for Holdenville's Visual Lease Services. He was owner/operator of T.J.'s Antennas, a job that never ended because Tom would always go and help with antenna issues whenever anyone called. For the past several years he has been employed as welder and Maintenance Supervisor for TMCO in Wewoka.
From an early age, Tom's heart was in his service at Holdenville First Baptist Church. He served for several years as Youth Minister, also an occupation that never ended because Tom never stopped checking on that youth group, now with children and grandchildren of their own, and continued that ministry to them and to younger generations as well. He completed various Bible college courses to improve his ministry and at present was serving as an adult Sunday School teacher, while staying very actively involved in other church activities. He was an avid fan of all sports, a diehard Green Bay Packer fan, and a totally dedicated fan of the Oklahoma Sooners. Most important to Tom, he was the loud voice of the Holdenville Wolverines, calling just about every home football game for many years. To Tom those sporting events were an opportunity to further connect with the young people of Holdenville and the surrounding communities; he truly cared for them, and he was much loved in return. And when it came to his own kids and grandkids, he was there for every one of their sports events if he could possibly attend.
Tom was not a planner but he was a man of action, all about getting things done. He very much enjoyed working, welding, building things. He loved all types of music. He genuinely loved people and focused his undivided attention on any individual he was talking to as if they were the most important person in the world, because to Tom at that moment, they truly were. Many of those conversations included photos because Tom was a world-class selfie taker and loved snapping pictures. He adored his wife and loved pampering her, from bringing her Coke and her favorite candy bars to tucking her in at night. His entire family feels beyond blessed that they get to love him and be loved by him.
Tom is preceded in death by his father, William B. Janes, and his brother, Billy Janes.
He is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Rhonda, of the home; six children: Candace Martinez (Oscar) of Bixby, Cassie Janes of Atwood, Brendon Janes (Allison) of Holdenville, Taylor Janes (Sierra Stambaugh) of Holdenville, Nick Johnson of Holdenville, and Tripp Janes of the home; eight grandchildren: Jaxon Williams, Langston Williams, Madison Martinez, Makenzie Martinez, Niya Nickason, Blakely Anderson, Henlee Janes, and Margo Janes; one great granddaughter on the way, Leila Carmona; his mother, Frenola 'Fronie' Janes of Holdenville; three brothers: Bob Ringer, Jay Janes, and John Janes; one sister, Jennie Treat; nieces and nephews, other family members, and a countless host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Holdenville football stadium at 2:00pm on Friday, October 13, 2023, and Tom was laid to rest at Holdenville Cemetery with Rev. James Poulain officiating. Pallbearers were Brandon Mills, Mike Meek, Jay McLemore, Sean Workman, Kevin 'Buckwheat' Arthur, and David Gonzalez. Honorary pallbearers were Brett Streater, Jaxon Williams, Langston Williams, Taylor Janes, Brendon Janes, Nick Johnson, Tripp Janes, and Gregg Janes.
