Obituary

Thelma Turpin Reed was born at Coalgate, Oklahoma on September 12, 1931, and died on September 21, 2018, at her home in Non, Oklahoma. Thelma grew up and attended school at Round Hill in the Coalgate area.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Alton and Thelma Mae (Midkiff) Cotten. Also preceding, husbands James Turpin and Robert Reed; son Elvin Leon Turpin; brothers: Leo, Joe, Tom, and Bob Cotten; sisters: Norma Taylor and Lottie Abraham.

Thelma leaves behind two sons, Shelly Turpin and Brenda of Non, Oklahoma, and Dennis Turpin and Connie of Wilson, Oklahoma; two daughters, Connie Martin of Calvin, Oklahoma and Carolyn Foster and Wayne of Non, Oklahoma; sisters: Rose Coarser of Marquesas Islands, and Almeda Miller, Doris Garrett, Betty Palak, and brother David Cotten, all of California; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Thelma enjoyed family, sewing, and flowers. She had worked several years at Coalgate Seamprufe. She was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Non. She died at home surrounded by family.

Funeral services were held at Capitol Heights Missionary Baptist Church, 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, and Thelma was laid to rest at Holdenville Cemetery. Rev. Gary Dodson and Rev. Glen Russell were the officiating ministers. Pallbearers were J. R. Hightower, Corey D. Martin, Chad Martin, Dustin Turpin, Hunter Harden, and Gage Coil. Honorary pallbearers were Cody Fraser, Colby Fraser, Kyler Turpin, Kaden Turpin, Kaulen Turpin, Briar Hightower, and Dylan Yockey.
