Shirley June Netzel passed away at Holdenville General Hospital on Friday, October 10, 2008, at the age of 68 years.
Shirley was the daughter of Houston & Noreen (Powell) Gray, born on on October 28, 1939, in Portales, New Mexico. She was brought up and attended schools in Portales, and lived there for many years before moving to Holdenville in 1963.
She was married to Fred O. Netzel on July 2, 1963, in Holdenville, where they've made their home for the past 45 years. Shirley worked for many years as sales clerk for Happy Foods in Holdenville, and later at Pratt's Supermarket. She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Houston & Noreen Gray; one sister, Polly Stark.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Fred Netzel, of the home; five children: Florene Gordon (Joe) of Portales NM, Catherine Sites of Amarillo TX, Rebecca Buys of Midland TX, Dean Lucas (John) of Kiowa OK, and Norman Netzel (Bobbie) of Holdenville; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; two sisters, Juanita Terry and Thyra Cathey, both of Portales NM; two brothers, Waymon Gray of Alamogorda NM and Burl Gray of Portales NM; several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services were help on Tuesday, October 13, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home's Lillye Chapel, and Shirley was laid to rest at Glory Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Orsburn was the officiating minister. Pallbearers were John Lucas, Jeff Lucas, Jason Lucas, Phillip Netzel, Don Merriman, and Randy Madron.
