Obituary

Samuel Grady Anthony went to be with the Lord on August 24, 2024, at the age of 79.

Sam was born to Hazel Irene Hammons & Mace Lee Anthony on April 30, 1945. He was born and raised in Holdenville, Oklahoma. He attended school at Hulsey and Moss, and graduated Moss High School with the Class of 1963. He married Laura Sue Cox on September 19, 1969. They made their home in Holdenville until moving to Bugtussle, Oklahoma to live on the lake in 1995.

Sam worked at the McAlester Naval Ammunition Plant in McAlester, for Kingsberry Homes in Holdenville driving a truck, then went back to the Army Ammunition Plant in McAlester where he retired with thirty-five years of service with the U.S. government. He received the Civilian Service Medal for exemplary service during Vietnam, Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Kosovo, and Iraqi Freedom.

Sam was a member of the Bugtussle Volunteer Fire Department and served on the board retiring from active duty. He then became active with Krebs Senior Citizens and served on their board until his death.

Sam loved to fish and hunt, being with family and friends. We thank Jim Gee and Cory Wall for making that possible for him after he had LVAD (heart pump) surgery that gave him almost five bonus years of life. Also Nathan McKee and Dustin Wall, two wonderful young men who took over a lot of work around our home to help Sam.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents Mace & Irene Anthony; brother Mace Lee Anthony Jr, and sister Wilma Anthony Snell.

Survivors are his wife of fifty-five years, Sue, of the home; his children: son Tracy Howard Anthony (Tammy) of Jonesboro AR, and daughter Kimberly Dawn (Anthony) Brakhage (Dale) of Seminole; grandchildren Bradley, Patrick, and Madelyn; great grandchildren Kendall, Madelyn, Greta, and J. T.; one sister, Wanda Anthony Greenwood of Holdenville; one aunt, Pauline Johnsey of Memphis TX; other relatives and many friends.

Two funeral services were held, the first one on Friday, August 30, 2024, 1:00pm at Flowery Mounds Baptist Church of Bugtussle, with Rev. C. B. 'Buck' Copeland officiating. Honorary pallbearers were the Bugtussle Volunteer Fire Department, Jim McKee, Richard Barns, Jimmy Gee, Jerry Stafford, Ron Stevens, Jered Weeks, Michael Corcoran, and Merlin Sanders.
