Roy Dean
Griffin
October 1, 1963 – December 12, 2023
Roy Dean Griffin passed away at his home in Holdenville on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at the age of 60 years.
Roy is the son of Marvin Edward Griffin & Gertie Darlene (Anderson) Griffin, born on October 1, 1963, in Seminole, Oklahoma. His early childhood was spent in Bearden until at age ten he moved with his family to various places around the state including Oklahoma City, Earlsboro, and Seminole. He attended Bearden and New Lima schools. He married Leslie Anne Wheat on October 31, 1981, in Bowlegs, Oklahoma. He worked at several occupations but mostly drove trucks over the road for more than thirty years, mainly for Expanded Solutions. Due to failing health, he was forced to retire in 2022.
Roy enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching John Wayne movies, playing dominoes, board, card, and video games with his family. He loved fixing things and spent hours working on old vehicles, helping to remodel houses, and repairing things for people. He considered himself a jack of all trades and master of none, and he often said that since his left leg was amputated at the knee he'd tried unsuccessfully to get a job at IHOP. His favorite thing was just spending time with family and friends, sitting around talking and cracking jokes. He will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin & Gertie Griffin; his wife of forty years, Leslie, in 2021.
He is survived by two children: son Travis Griffin of the home, and daughter Robin Griffin (Collin Cone) of Seminole; two brothers, Gary Griffin and Kevin Griffin (Lisa), all of Seminole; five nephews: Eddie Griffin (Kelli) of Holdenville, Michael Knizek (Tammie) of Seminole, Arlis Ford (Kesha) of Texas, Kenny Gayler, and Jeremiah Gayler, both of Wewoka; five nieces: Gena Griffin of Seminole, Kim Word of Holdenville, Kim Lemmings (John) of Seminole, Angie Crump (Curtis) of Georgia, and Ava Petrimouex (Bob) of Alabama; numerous other family members, and many friends.
Graveside services were held and Roy was laid to rest at Little Cemetery, 10:30am on Saturday, December 16, 2023, with Rev. Mike Lewis officiating. Pallbearers were Eddie Griffin, Dennis Beckett, Torrin Cummings, Collin Cone, Dakota Griffin, Mike Knizek, Mike Ott, and Steve Branscum. Honorary pallbearers were Benjamin Wood, Andrew Ott, Jacob Ott, Daniel Batson, Dwight Beckett, and Jeff Dingee.
