Rhonda Delores Wilbourn passed away at her home near Holdenville on Thursday evening, February 17, 2011, at the age of 56 years.
Rhonda was the daughter of Robert Wilbourn & Wanda Louise (Stacy) Wilbourn, born on January 4, 1955, in Hughes County, Oklahoma. She was brought up in northern Hughes County and attended schools at Bearden and Wetumka. She dropped out of high school, married and became mother to one son, David. She later earned her GED, attended Wes Watkins Vo Tech to study nursing, and worked five years for Country Style Home Health.
Rhonda was a homemaker at heart, and thoroughly enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting and crochet. Her chocolate gravy was the best. She made pretty clothes for herself, and for family and friends. She designed and created quilts and doilies and table runners for herself, and for family and friends. She was a talented decorator and kept her home beautiful and inviting with painting, staining and varnishing, and hanging wallpaper; and she spent countless hours helping decorate the homes of family and friends. She loved growing flowers, shrubs and trees, and when she wasn't playing in the dirt in her yard, she was helping in someone else's yard. Whatever Rhonda was blessed with, she was happy to share with others.
She has been an enthusiastic and faithful member of Heritage Rock Church in Holdenville since 1974, when she was 19 years old. She served as Ladies Activities Director for several years, taught Sunday School classes from preschool to teens, helped teach children who attended Heritage Schools, and was a friend and mentor to those same children when they became young adults. She loved to sing, loved choir songs, and in her younger years sang solo very often by request. She was singing with us just a few days before she left us. Very possibly, she is singing now as angels listen attentively.
She is preceded in death by:
Her Father, Robert Wilbourn
Two Brothers, Roger Wilbourn and Darrell Wilbourn
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David & Erika Storts of Holdenville and their children, Emily Maria Storts and William David Storts. Em and Will were the joy of their grandmother's life, and she was so proud of them both.
She is survived also by her mother, Wanda Wilbourn of Okemah; two brothers, Danny Wilbourn of Okemah and Ronnie Wilbourn and wife Kathy of Wewoka; one sister Joyce Smith and husband Andy of Okemah; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Rhonda was very much loved by her family, very much loved by her friends, and will be very much missed by all of them.
Funeral services will be Monday, February 21, 2011, 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Rock Church in Holdenville. Rev. L. D. Ellingsworth and Rev. Kevin Fisher are the officiating ministers. Pallbearers are Jonathan Barksdale, Allen Smith, Andy Smith, Jesse Smith, Justin Leach and Kevin Fisher. Rhonda will be laid to rest in the Morris Cemetery north of Okemah.
