Oscar Kennith Hicks passed away at his home in Holdenville on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at the age of 94 years.
Oscar was the son of Arthur Thomas Hicks & Tinnie Ellen (Hunnicutt) Hicks, born on December 10, 1920, in Peggs, Oklahoma. He was brought up and attended schools in the rural area near Peggs, and dropped out of school at a young age when his father passed away. As a young man he spent two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps.
He married Opal Smith on December 21, 1948, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. They made their home in Tulsa, where they brought up their son, David, and daughter, Marguerite, and lived in the same house for 52 years. Oscar worked as a machinist, specifically a drill press operator, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed woodworking and flower gardening, and he loved dogs - any kind of dog, he just loved them all. He was a member of Welcome Home Free Will Baptist Church. Due to failing health, he moved ten years ago to Holdenville to be near his daughter.
Oscar is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur & Tinnie Hicks; his wife of 52 years, Opal, in 2000; four brothers and three sisters; two great grandsons.
He is survived by two children, Marguerite Hearod (Arty) of Holdenville, and David Hicks (Janet) of Bixby; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Graveside services were held and Oscar was laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Arty Hearod officiating.
