Matthew Lee Summers passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning, May 20, 2017, in an automobile accident near Sasakwa, at the age of 22 years.
Matthew was born on June 3, 1994, in Ada, Oklahoma. He was brought up and attended schools in Saskawa. In high school he played football and was a member of the Student Council, National Honor Society, and 4H Club, and graduated Sasakwa High School with the Class of 2012. He was employed for the past two years by Flex-N-Gate in Ada, and had recently attended Pontotoc Technology Center in Ada to obtain training for his position of Maintenance Mechanic. He loved to hunt and fish, and one of his favorite things was riding a wave runner.
He is preceded in death by: his great grandfather, Perry Walter Epley and great grandmother, Maxine Elise Lucille (Wallace) Epley; grandmother Patricia Bernice (Jenkins) Epley; great grandmother, Virginia (Mayo) Jenkins; great grandfather James Roy Jenkins; great grandfather, Phillip Hershel Poindexter; grandfather Alvin Summers.
He is survived by his fiancé, Haylie Kathleen Landreth, of the home; his parents, Timmy Don Eubank & Priscilla Matilda (Hotsie) Eubank of Sasakwa; his brother, Michael Derrick Summers of Redding CA; two sisters, Brittany Nicole Summers and Timberlyn Hotsie Dawn Eubank, both of Sasakwa; two nieces, Jessie Nicole Bambam Choate and Daisy Louise Choate, both of Sasakwa; maternal grandparents Perry Walter Epley Jr. & Sara Janell Reich Epley, of Sasakwa; paternal grandparents: Debbie Yavonne Poindexter of Ada and Deanna Broghton of Redding CA; aunts and uncles: Patricia & Carl Annanders of McComb, Perry Epley III & Christy, Almon & Tiffany Epley, Linda & John Choate, Millard & Allie Epley, all of Sasakwa, Heather Broghton of Redding CA; numerous great aunts, great uncles, and cousins, and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at the Sasakwa School Auditorium, and Matthew was laid to rest at Pontotoc Cemetery in Johnston County, Oklahoma. Rev. Gary Choate was the officiating minister. Pallbearers were Dakota Davis, Millard Epley, Daniel Luce, Almon Epley, Danny Choate, Cedric Sweed, Beau Johnson, and Michael Morrison. Honorary pallbearers were Victor Johnson, Kevin Landreth, and George Epley.
