Mary Juanita Deatherage passed away in McAlester, Oklahoma on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at the age of 75 years.
Mary was the daughter of Walter Amos Latham & Elizabeth Sue (Bryant) Latham, born on October 23, 1937, in Canadian, Texas. She was brought up and attended schools in Terrell, Oklahoma.
Mary lived for many years in Fritch, Texas, and then for many years in Deer Park, Texas, where she worked in the school cafeteria while her kids were attending school.
She was married to Wayne Deatherage On June 22, 1980, in Fritch, Texas. They lived seventeen years near Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, Texas, before moving to Oklahoma in 2000 to a farm near the Hilltop community east of Calvin. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Stuart, Oklahoma.
Mary was an outgoing and fun-loving person. Growing up, Halloween was her favorite holiday, and among her fondest memories are the times when she and her friends chased each other all over town fighting with water balloons. She loved rock & roll and convertibles, particularly Camaros. She loved the outdoors, and enjoyed fishing and gardening, or sitting quietly observing the beauty of nature on the beach or in the mountains.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter & Elizabeth Latham, and one brother, David Latham.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 32 years, Wayne, of the home; five children: Jackie Wilkins of Amarillo, Texas, Gayle Smith and husband Darrell, whose residence is a sailboat in the Gulf, Jerry Hendershot and wife Callie of Deer Park, Texas, Kathryn Cunningham and husband Ernie of Amarillo, Texas, and Tava Deatherage of Calvin, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren: Aaron Carroll of Houston, Texas, Sharon Jennings and husband Sean and Micayle Stark, all of Amarillo, Texas, Phillip Carroll of Pasadena, Texas, Emily Wilson and husband Bobby of Santa Rosa, California, Jerry Mark Hendershot and wife Stephanie of Houston, Shannon Hendershot and wife Marcy, also of Houston, Justin Hendershot of Deer Park, Ethan Campbell, Emily Merriman, and Hayden Merriman, all of Calvin; 11 great grandchildren: Jacob, Gracelyn, Lance, Lydia, Brandon, Braden, Matilda, Joseph, Emma, Jacob, and Julianna, and two more soon to arrive; two sisters, Margaret Satterlee of Livingston, Texas, and Rose Snow of Fritch, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews, various other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 3, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Stuart, and Mary will be laid to rest in the Hilltop Cemetery near Calvin. Red Coleman and Kelly Benson are the officiating ministers.
