Obituary

Marvin Eugene Spencer passed away at Valley View Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the age of 80 years.

Marvin was born on March 12, 1933, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Spence Spencer & Agnes (Ratcliff) Spencer. He was brought up in Oklahoma, in Fitztown and Wewoka, and was a graduate of Wewoka High School.

He served in the U.S. Army with the 45th Division Thunderbirds in Korea and was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad in various capacities, including Conductor, and for PanAm Airlines. He also worked in the oilfield, where he acquired the nickname 'Smooth Operator'.

He was married to Opal (Wallace) King in Eldorado, Arkansas, and has lived the past several years in Okemah. He was an avid OU fan and loved to gamble at casinos, entertainment that kept him alive for the past seven years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Spence & Agnes Spencer; one son, Kim Spencer, and one stepson, Randy King; one sister, Nadine Jackson.

He is survived by his wife, Opal, of the home; two children, Sheryl Spencer Austin and Mark Spencer, both of Shawnee; 5 stepchildren: Cheryl King, Stanley King, and Jeff King, all of Eldorado, Arkansas, Beverly Namath of Virginia and Greg King of Austin, Texas; 4 grandchildren: Ricci Michelle Austin (John McPherson) of McLoud, Michael Dane Austin (Amanda) of Edmond, Andrew Spencer, and Tosha Spencer; 11 stepgrandchildren: Stephanie King, Timothy King, Autumn Ryleigh King, all of Eldorado, Arkansas, Lauren Namath and Joshua Namath, both of Virginia, Trina King, Rachel King, and Randy King, all of Eldorado, Arkansas, Greg King Jr., Desuree King, and Angela King, all of Austin, Texas; 7 great-grandchildren: Tallen, Destiny, Corbin, Madison, Syndey, Brie, and Chelsea; many other relatives and friends, including two close friends, Arthur Orsburn of Wewoka and Melvin Morgan of Okemah.

Graveside services will be held and Marvin will be laid to rest on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Resthaven Memorial Gardens east of Seminole. Rev. Frank Moppin is the officiating minister. Honorary pallbearers are Arthur Orsburn and Melvin Morgan.
