Obituary

Marlin G. Elliott passed away in Thomaston, Georgia on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at the age of 97 years.

Marlin was the son of Henry Hawkins Elliott & Ethel (Owensby) Elliott, born on March 24, 1925, in Calvin, Oklahoma. He was brought up and attended Calvin schools, graduating Calvin High School in 1943. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. He married Hazel Lindley on July 31, 1944, in Holdenville, Oklahoma, in a ceremony performed by Rev. C. C. Johnson of the Church of The Nazarene. They lived in northern California, Phoenix Arizona, Missouri, Georgia and Oklahoma, and enjoyed sixty-three years together before Hazel passed away in 2007. While in the Phoenix area, Marlin attended Grand Canyon College. He pastored churches in various states and was Chaplain for Trucker Ministries in Phoenix. He spent a few years in the Calvin area after his retirement and enjoyed decent health until the past few weeks. He mowed his lawn just a few weeks ago. He loved to hunt and fish and had killed a deer just this past January. He loved the Lord, and his life was about sharing the Lord with everyone. He was devoted to his family and dearly loved. He will be sorely missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Ethel Elliott; his wife of 63 years, Hazel (Lindley) Elliott, son John R. Elliott, and all his siblings.

He is survived by five children: David (Beverly) Elliott of Waynesville MO, Karen Loper (Larry) of Dragoon AZ, K. Tom (Shona) Elliott of Woodland CA, John H. Elliott of Ashland NE, and Lela Knoche (Brian), also of Ashland NE; eight grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.
