'Kalon' (Gooden) Owen

Marcella Sue (Gooden) Owen, nicknamed 'Kalon', was born on January 6, 1951, to Annie Gooden. She departed this world on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. She was Native American Creek, and very proud of her heritage. She was born and raised in her early years in Calvin, Oklahoma where she attended school until moving to Holdenville, Oklahoma graduating Holdenville High School in 1970. She attended Okmulgee Tech Training and graduated in 1972. She worked at St. Anthony Hospital retiring in 2018. She was a foster parent in 2011 for two teenagers that stayed in her home for a year.
She married Richard Simpson on April 22, 1972. Of this relationship were two sons, Aaron Simpson and Isaac Simpson. She later married David Owen, Sr. on November 8, 1999. She accepted the Lord at the age of six years but was not baptized until the age of twelve years, on Easter morning in 1962 at Many Springs. She loved the Lord, family, friends, and sports. She became a certified Bible Christian Counselor on December 16, 2004. She also loved to write poems; one was published in 2001 by the famous Poet Society, page 317, entitled "Graduation Day". She was in the ministry since November 8, 1992. She attended Many Springs Baptist Church in Holdenville.
She is survived by two sons, Aaron Simpson and Tammy of Holdenville, and Isaac Simpson of Tulsa; eight grandchildren whom she loved very much; two sisters, Louise Scott and Madelyn Trusty; two brothers, Martin Joshua (Alice) and Eddie Gooden (Carol); one sister-in-law, Betty Tiger; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Annie Gooden; one sister, Maureen Harjo, and one brother, Malcolm Tiger.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, 1:30 pm at Many Springs Baptist Church, and Marcella was laid to rest at McCosar Family Cemetery in Holdenville with Rev. Eddie Gooden officiating. Pallbearers were Talon Rivers, Chebon Lowe, Bruce McCosar, and Noe Reyes.
Wake service was Friday, October 20, 7:00pm at Many Springs Baptist Church.
