Obituary

Leon McPerryman passed away at his home in Spaulding on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at the age of 71 years.

Leon was the son of Lewis & Sarah (Manley) McPerryman, born on January 13, 1951 at Claremore, Oklahoma. He was brought up in the Little River community and attended Atwood schools. His mother passed away when he was very young, and his father when he was 14 years old. He grew up living with his cousins in the Walters family and the Factor family, and also with the Billy Moss family. He graduated Pleasant Grove High School and took some college courses at Okmulgee Tech.

Leon was a hard worker and a man of many abilities. He was a welder, a truck driver, and a cowboy. He worked as a welder in the oilfield and building gates, corrals, and innumerable other structures on farms and ranches. He drove a cattle truck in Kansas hauling roping steers for Jeff Smith. He was the "Heeler" on team roping events and enjoyed many hours roping with many of his friends, including Doc Mims. He was also a really good fast-pitch softball pitcher, well known for throwing a knuckleball that "made a batter look silly". Softball was one of his favorite things, and he traveled all over the USA playing in tournaments, and enjoyed playing one tournament in Canada. He loved his grandkids, who affectionately called him "Blackjack", and of course he had names for all of them. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.

Leon is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis & Sarah McPerryman; his sister, Josephine McGirt, and grandson Jerron McPerryman.

He is survived by his girlfriend of twelve years and caregiver for the past several months, Jamie (Mayfield) Henry, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest & Melody McPerryman of Morris, and Jeremy 'Peanut' & LeeAnn McPerryman of Seminole; grandchildren: Uriah McPerryman, Josiah McPerryman, Aaliyah Sharver, Taliah Switch, Sienna Carter, Mya Merritt, and Ayden McPerryman; cousins: Betsy Harjo, Henry Factor, Nora Tiger, Brian Factor, Chris Factor, Nellie Baldwin, Louis Walters, Frank Walters, Victoria Davis, Mona Renfrow, and Stan Factor; Jamie's son, Forrest Henry; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 7, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at Holdenville Church of the Nazarene, and Leon was laid to rest at Holdenville Cemetery with Rev. Paul Fixico, Rev. Eric Tholocco, and Rev. Kevin Fisher officiating. Pallbearers were Brian Factor, Gabe George, Ryan Mims, John Goodson, Josiah McPerryman, Will Crump, and Clem George.
