Obituary

Katie Narcomey passed away in Holdenville, Oklahoma on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at the age of 91 years.

Katie was the daughter of Rev. Robert Thompson & Peggy (Goate) Thompson, born on September 16, 1924, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. She attended elementary school at Oak Grove, and graduated high school in 1942, at Chilocco Indian Boarding School in Chilocco, Oklahoma.

Katie lived nearly her entire life in Holdenville. She was married in Holdenville to Rev. George Narcomey on September 26, 1946, in a ceremony performed by her father. She assisted her husband in pastoring Cedar River Baptist Church, until his untimely death at the age of 52. Katie was a lifelong member of Cedar River Baptist Church, and pastor's wife there for 17 years. Her loyal and faithful service continued all her life and she served in various capacities, including Women's Leader. She particularly enjoyed teaching children's Sunday School classes, where the children were always delighted with the arts & crafts projects she prepared for them.

Katie loved life, and put her heart into everything she did. She loved teaching, cooking, and art. She loved singing, and as a young lady sang soprano with the Chilocco Girls Sextet. She was full-blood Creek Indian, fluent in both Creek and English, and fiercely proud of her heritage. What she loved most were her children and grandchildren, and her extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Robert & Peggy Thompson; her husband, Rev. George Narcomey; four brothers: John Thompson, Henry Thompson, Lee Thompson, and Adam Thompson.

She is survived by four children: Luther Narcomey (Blanche) of Carnegie, Daniel Narcomey (the late Tochee), Madeline Narcomey, and Amelia Boone, all of Holdenville; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Graveside services will be held and Katie will be laid to rest at Cedar River Baptist Church Cemetery on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Abraham Gomez will officiate.
