Kathleen Raney passed away in Non, Oklahoma in the early hours of Wednesday morning, September 24, 2014. She was 83 years old.
Kathleen was the daughter of Melvin & Etta (Cherry) Turpin, the fifth of their eleven children. She was born on January 4, 1931, in Holdenville, Oklahoma, the first baby born in town that year. She was brought up in the Non area and attended Gerty schools, graduating Gerty High School in 1948. She was married to Lloyd Melvin Raney on August 5, 1948, in Holdenville. They lived in various places, first in California for a few years before moving in 1950 back to Oklahoma, where they lived in Haywood and in McAlester. They lived for twenty years in Bedford, Texas, then for twenty years in Arkansas, in Harrison and other towns in the northwest area. They retired in 1993 and moved to Non. They were married 54 years when Lloyd passed away on December 16, 2002.
Kathleen loved to travel, and enjoyed numerous trips all across the States. She visited Canada and England, and went on multiple cruises. She was a member of the Non Free Will Baptist Church, and had made her home in Non for the past 21 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Melvin & Etta Turpin; her husband, Lloyd Raney; three brothers: Leon Turpin, Elvin Turpin, James Turpin, and one sister, Ruth Tipton.
She is survived by five children: Phyllis Rangel (Charlie) of Alvord, Texas, Gary Lloyd Raney (Carla) of Non, Kathy Bauer (Robert) of Muenster, Texas, Farrel Raney (Vicki) of Everton, Arkansas, Sherry White (Gary) of Fort Smith, Arkansas; 14 grandchildren: Cason Rangel (Shelly) and Carl Rangel, all of Alvord, Texas, Martha Schirripa (Sal) of Southlake, Texas, LaDonna Waters (Travis) of Beaumont, Texas, Amy McDonald (Shane) of Sasakwa, Oklahoma, Gary Joe Raney (Salina) of Gerty, Oklahoma, Josh Raney of Non, Oklahoma, Andrea Coachman (Austin) of McKinney, Texas, Raney Bauer of Houston, Texas, Jacqueline Bauer of Muenster, Texas, Howdi Block (Steve) of Alpena, Arkansas; Brandi Raney of Everton, Arkansas, Chase White of Highland, Arkansas, and Calli White of Kansas City, Missouri; 26 great grandchildren; three brothers: Gene Turpin (Joyce) of Atwood, Paul Turpin (Doretta) of Calvin, Ralph Turpin (Jimmie) of Gerty, and three sisters: Margaret Levingston (Roger) of Ada, Shirley Ellis (Virgil) of Stuart, and Pauline Johnson (Jerry) of Lindale, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, September 26, 2014, 1:00 p.m. at the Non Free Will Baptist Church, and Kathleen was laid to rest in the Gerty Cemetery. Rev. Gary Dodson and Rev. Randall Miller were the officiating ministers. Pallbearers were Cason Rangel, Carl Rangel, Gary Joe Raney, Chase White, Bobby Boyles, Andrea Coachman, Jacqueline Bauer, and Cason R. Rangel. All Kathleen's grandchildren served as honorary pallbearers.
