Junior Stirling Dicketts passed away in Holdenville on Thursday morning, November 10, 2016, at the age of 80 years.
Junior was the son of Cashious H. Dicketts & Vira Viola (Johnston) Dicketts, born on June 11, 1936, in Gerty, Oklahoma, and was brought up in the Atwood and Allen communities. Over the years, Junior worked at the peanut plant in Allen and various other occupations, most of them centered around farming. He took care of his mother for many years after his father's death until she passed away in 1985. He made his home in the Calvin area for many years.
He enjoyed watching Western movies. He was an avid reader, and did not like to start a book unless he knew he could read it from start to finish without interruption. He read only books of the Western genre, and particularly enjoyed Louis L'Amour stories of the old West.
He was a member of the Calvin Free Will Baptist Church. He had recently began researching his ancestry online and was intrigued to discover that only a few generations back in his lineage is a Civil War General who played a significant role in the Battle of Shiloh. He never married or had children of his own, but was beloved by many nieces and nephews. They learned at an early age that Uncle Junior had a host of friends that he loved to visit with, so it was never a quick trip when they went with him to town. Junior loved people, and they loved him. He will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.
He is survived by seventeen nieces and nephews: Barry Madden, Earl Ray Madden, Geraldine Dodson, Patricia Borokowitz, Jerry Madden, Jeannie Le, Timmy Dicketts, Mark Jordan, Alan Dicketts, Karen Woods, Donna Johnson, Kevin Bishop, Randy Bishop, Tammie Bishop, Connie Lamirand, Carla Montgomery, and Phillip Dicketts; numerous great and great great nieces and nephews; many other family members and friends, and his beloved dog, Lucky, affectionately known as Butt Head.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 12, 2016, 10:00 a.m. at Calvin Free Will Baptist Church, and Junior was laid to rest in the Allen Cemetery. Rev. Grady Roundtree and Rev. Jim Lawrence were the officiating ministers. Nephews and great nephews served as pallbearers.
