Joyce
Hammock
October 30, 1932 – September 3, 2023
Velma Joyce Hammock passed away in Holdenville, Oklahoma on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the age of 90 years.
Joyce was the daughter of Pat Carl Baxley & Inez (Neal) Baxley, born on October 30, 1932, in Spaulding, Oklahoma. Her early childhood was spent between Oklahoma and California until at age nine when her family moved to Roswell, New Mexico. Joyce graduated Roswell High School with the Class of 1951 and went to work at a bank in Roswell. She was married to Bill Hammock on.
Joyce enjoyed banking and was employed at various banks where her travels in life took her. From Roswell she moved to Virginia for three years and returned to Roswell for a while before moving to Lawton, Oklahoma for seven years. She moved to Holdenville and worked for fourteen years at First National Bank, now First United Bank. During those years, she was the smiling face at the customer service counter that greeted customers when the elevator doors opened on the second floor. She was pretty, pleasant, friendly and helpful, had a great sense of humor and made delicious punch that was requested for special events; hers was considered a most cheerful corner of the bank by customers and employees alike.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Roswell. She enjoyed spending her time raising her family and working at the bank. She retired on December 31, 1994, moved back once again to Roswell for more than 20 years, then to California for 18 months before returning to spend her final years in Holdenville.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Pat & Inez Baxley; her daughter, Dixie Lynn Barefield; two sisters, Teresa Boans and Nancy Baxley.
She is survived by four grandchildren: Kelly Morris, Brandon Barefield, Abby Barefield, and Jordan Canivari; five great grandchildren: Ana, Aiden, Aydelyne, Conner, and Olivia; four brothers: Clyde 'Snapper' Baxley, Max Baxley, Montie Baxley, and Carl Baxley; one sister, Bennie Shaw; nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.
Joyce was laid to rest at Holdenville Cemetery.
