Johnny Wayne Jay passed away in an automobile accident on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at the age of 50 years.
Johnny was the son of Johnny Wesley Jay & Opal (Hampton) Jay, born on March 22, 1965, in Norman, Oklahoma. He was brought up and attended schools in Holdenville, and lived his entire life in the Holdenville area. He worked for the past 19 years as a machinist for Special Parts Manufacturing (SPM) in Holdenville.
Johnny loved music and singing, and was a very talented and accomplished musician. He began playing drums in church at a young age, and had a natural ability to play various other instruments, including guitar and banjo. He enjoyed playing with numerous local bands, and performed at Stroup Park just last Saturday, August 1, at Holdenville's recent musical event, Concert in the Park. He loved the outdoors, loved hunting and fishing, especially bass fishing. One of his favorite things was deer hunting, particularly with his dad, a cherished tradition they enjoyed for many years. His children, grandchildren, and extended family were the joy of his life. He was greatly loved, and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Opal Jay; paternal grandparents Will & Ethel Jay, and maternal grandparents James & Lois Hampton.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Karrie & Dewayne Smith and Maranda & Juan Jimenez; granddaughter Laveah Beavers and grandson Gabriel Jimenez, all of Seminole; his father, Johnny Jay, of Holdenville; his sister and brother-in-law, Mary & James Wardlow, also of Holdenville; Ben, his Labrador buddy, faithful friend and companion for many years; nieces and nephews, other family members, and many, many friends.
Memorial services were held on Monday, August 10, 2015, 1:00 p.m. at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Holdenville, with Rev. Rick Madron and Rev. Dane Robinson officiating.
