Obituary

John Gerald Lucas passed away on Sunday evening, March 13, 2011, at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City, at the age of 47 years.

John was the son of Ted & Geneva (Maddox) Lucas, born on June 2, 1963, in Bakersfield, California. The family moved to Oklahoma when he was a young child, and John was brought up and attended schools in Holdenville and Wewoka.

He went to work in the oilfields at the young age of 16, and made it his life's work. He was employed by Eagle Energy, and on September 1, 2010 was promoted to Contract Drilling Superintendent. He married Deana Sites on March 22, 1983, in Holdenville, and they were the parents of four children. John loved his work, he loved riding motorcycles, fishing, and especially enjoyed 'going caving', his expression for exploring caves all around the countryside. He loved his family more than anything, and his favorite pastime was spoiling his grandchildren. He was dearly loved, and will be sorely missed.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Sherman & Sable Maddox, and his paternal grandparents, John James Lucas & Naomi (Foreman) Lucas.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Deana, of the home; four children: John James Lucas and wife Stephanie of Holdenville, Jeff Neil Lucas of Lamont, Oklahoma, Tia Marie Lucas and companion Bobby Joe Thacker, and Jason Scott Lucas, all of Holdenville; five grandchildren: Lydia Ann Lucas, Alayna Shea Lucas, Gavin John James Lucas, Riley Jo Lucas, and Phoebe Faye Thacker; his father, Ted Lucas, Sr. and wife Jo Ann of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; his mother, Geneva Miller and husband Richard, of McAlester, Oklahoma; two brothers, Ted Lucas, Jr. and wife Cairol Ann of Holdenville, and Allen Belmyer of Alabama; three stepbrothers: Michael Miller and Steven Miller of McAlester, Oklahoma, and Jeffrey Miller of Dallas, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 16, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Holdenville, and John will be laid to rest in Glory Cemetery south of Holdenville. Rev. Jerry Orsburn is the officiating minister. Pallbearers are John Lucas, Jeff Lucas, Jason Lucas, Bobby Thacker, Jeremy Lucas, Phillip Netzel, and Greg Boyd.
