Obituary

Jimmy Wayne Taylor passed away at his home in Holdenville, Oklahoma on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the age of 73 years.

Jimmy was the son of Joe & Edna (Harjo) Taylor, born on May 12, 1951 in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He was brought up in the Sasakwa area, attended Cully Schools until 8th grade, and graduated Sasakwa High School. He joined the U.S. Marines at the end of the Vietnam era and served stateside. He went to school and earned a certificate for HVAC (heat & air). He worked in the oilfield installing liners in oilfield tanks and worked for several years as a carpenter. Due to a back injury, he retired in the 1980s. He was a member of the Seminole Indian Credit Association and served as a board member there for more than twenty years. He married Idalene McGeeley at Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1995, after fifteen years together. They lived on their homeplace in Holdenville for forty-four years. Jimmy enjoyed cutting grass and landscaping and loved all animals, especially his own six dogs and two cats.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe & Edna Taylor; his daughter, Ida Taylor; his great-grandson, Mateo Ray Thomas; three sisters: Delores Norman, Lina Coley, and Betsy Casteel; one brother, Calvin 'Sonny' Taylor; nephew Joe Taylor and niece Delores "Buffy" Casteel Troglin.

He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Idalene Taylor, of the home; three children: Lance Taylor (Cherie) of Wewoka, Raney Fixico of Holdenville and Tommy Taylor, also of Holdenville; twelve grandchildren: Josh, Erin, Courtney, Allison, Matthew, Zachary, Kate, Carmen, Alicia, Caleb, Kaitlyn, and Caleson; fourteen great-grandchildren; son-in-law Colin Coon of Okemah and Kenny Chambers of Huntington Beach CA, both of whom he regarded as his own sons; one brother, Leon 'Chippy' Postoak (Wanda) of Oklahoma City; two special nieces, Tina McDowell and Gayla Norman; three nephews Rodney Casteel, Randy Casteel, and Brad Taylor; brothers-in-law Louis McGeeley Jr of Sapulpa, and Wayne McGeeley of Holdenville; sister-in-law Jennie McGeeley of Holdenville; a special friend whom he considered his brother, Mike McGirt; nieces and nephews, other family members, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 22, 2024, 2:00pm at Salt Creek Methodist Church in Holdenville, and Jimmy will be laid to rest at Morning Glory Cemetery.
Rev. Paul Fixico and Rev. Kellos Walker are the officiating ministers, with Rev. Mike Deer serving as Emcee. Graveside service minister is Rev. Louis McGeeley Jr. Pallbearers are Colin Coon, Kenny Chambers, Rodney Casteel, Chris Perry, Elle Harris, Ted Martin, Caleb Hodgins. Honorary pallbearers are Mike McGirt, Gene Harjo, Ben 'Speedy' Harjo, Ken Chesnutt, Tim McGeeley, Terry Miner, Dan Sanford, Thompson Postoak, Vernon Harjo, and Doug Scott.
