Jewell Evelyn Summers passed away at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City on Tuesday evening, July 20, 2010, at the age of 86 years.
Jewell was the daughter of Jesse & Bessie L. (James) White, born on February 9, 1924, in Waldron, Arkansas. She was brought up in southeast Oklahoma, and as an adult continued to live in various locations in the southeast part of the state, including Holdenville and Wewoka. She lived abroad also for a time, in Venezuela and Bolivia.
She worked for Lillian Russell and Big Yank in Wewoka, and for Seamprufe in Holdenville. She also worked for a short time as a hairdresser, and as a real estate agent. She loved to sew and work in the yard, especially flower gardening. She attended Faith Free Will Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.
Jewell is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Langdon, of Holdenville; two granddaughters, Lori Sanford and husband Jerry, of Dale, Oklahoma and Amy Langdon of Norman, Oklahoma; three great-grandchildren: Ashley Sanford, Hunter Sanford and Tyler Bottoms; one sister, Estelle Peace of Choctaw, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 24, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at Lillye Chapel, Fisher Funeral Home, in Holdenville. Rev. Earl Scroggins is the officiating minister. Pallbearers are Denny Langdon, Bill John Langdon, Jack Barrett, Jackie Venable, John Langdon and Dennis Langdon. Jewell will be laid to rest in the Holdenville Cemetery.
