Obituary

Jerry Leo O'Kelly was born April 8, 1944 in Lindsay, California to Ralph and Maude (Day) O'Kelly. He passed away in Holdenville on April 15, 2014 from complications of COPD.

Jerry met and fell in love with Thelma Jean Castleman in a church in Healdsburg, California. They were married in that same church on December 22, 1961. They had two children, Karen and Darren.

Jerry was a very active man who loved camping, boating, fishing, water skiing, hunting, dirt bike riding, pretty much anything outdoors. He spent many, many weekends with family and friends on the rivers in central California or in the hills on a dirt bike. He was a man who loved to have fun and laugh, and make other people laugh. He loved music and singing, and taught himself to play guitar at a young age. He was a hardworking, family man. He had worked in a glass factory in San Leandro, California for 28 years when the plant closed. After the plant closed he went back to driving trucks and eventually he and Thelma decided to "retire" to Oklahoma where his parents were born and raised, and his older brother Vernon had relocated. He continued to drive trucks until his health no longer allowed him to be on the road.

He is survived by the love of his life for 52 years, Thelma; his daughter Karen Rowe and son-in-law Westley of Holdenville, his son Darren O'Kelly of Illinois; grandchildren Ryan Ledo (Kelly), Rindi Danner (Josh), Brittany O'Kelly, Elizabeth O'Kelly and Hillary O'Kelly; great grandchildren Evan and Mackenzie Ledo, Easton Brewer, Stella Danner, Mason and Brandolyn O'Kelly, and Deklan Porter; mother-in-law Pearl Castleman of Holdenville; sister Norma Jean Haskins of Santa Rosa, California; brothers Kenneth O'Kelley (Brenda) of Holdenville and Gayle O'Kelley (Deloris) of Tracy, California; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Maude; father-in-law, Harold Castleman; grandsons, Brandon O'Kelly, Daniel O'Kelly and Zachary O'Kelly; brother, Vernon O'Kelly; and sister, Sally Wallis.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holdenville Cemetery Chapel, Holdenville, Oklahoma, with Rev. Larry Chesser officiating.  Pallbearers will be Darren O'Kelly, Westley Rowe, Ryan Ledo, Josh Danner, Justin O'Kelley, and Gary Jumper.
