Janice Sue Conley passed away in Tulsa on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at the age of 68 years.
Sue was the daughter of Edward Wesley Johnson & Vondell Muerl (Hartzog) Johnson, born on March 2, 1945, in Wewoka, Oklahoma. She was brought up in various parts of the country as her father followed oilfield work, and never attended any one school for more than four months. Years later, in the middle of working and raising her own children, she found the time to earn her GED, and to attend several courses at Seminole State College.
Sue was married to Billy Conley on March 23, 1974, in Wewoka. They lived in Wewoka for fifteen years, until l989 when they moved to Holdenville, their home for the past twenty-five years. Sue worked at Twin Rivers Head Start, for five years as a volunteer and for several years more as an employee; she loved working with children. She enjoyed shopping and camping, and loved playing board games with her grandchildren. She was a long-time member of Gleaners Holiness Church in Wewoka, and loved attending church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward Johnson & Vondell Barnes.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Billy, of the home; five children: Linda Jack and husband Chris Campbell of Holdenville, Maryetta Calvert of Fletcher, Alice Leach and husband Richard of Holdenville, Connie Chesser and husband Stephen of Wewoka, and Marcy Bacon and husband Stephen of Holdenville; 9 grandchildren: Bubba Dooley & wife Heather, Joshua Dooley & wife Suzanne, Sheena Cole and husband Aubrey, A. J. Jackson and wife Rachel, all of Holdenville, Adam Chesser and wife Amanda of Wewoka, Mathew Chesser and wife Krystal of Prague, Christian Harrison, Angelica Harrison, and Hailey Hurrelbrink, all of Holdenville; twelve great grandchildren: Kimmy, A. J., Little Bubba, Adrianna, Trist-n, Zumarius, Aubrey, Baby J, Arana, Addyson, Mason, and Abbigail; one brother, Eddie Johnson and wife Betty, of El Dorado, Arkansas; four sisters: Mary Cosby and husband Burt, of Midland Texas, Marty Lunn and Debbie Johnson, both of Wewoka, and Richetta Johnson of Seminole; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Graveside services will be held and Sue will be laid to rest in the Lamar Cemetery on Saturday, February 15, 2014, 11:00 a.m. Rev. Tony Chesser and Rev. Larry Chesser will officiate. Pallbearers are Bubba Dooley, Joshua Dooley, A. J. Jackson, Adam Chesser, Mathew Chesser, and Christian Harrison.Visitation and viewing will be on Friday, February 14, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.
