Obituary

Elizabeth Jane (Leader) Cazabat was born on March 14, 1943, in Hughes County, Oklahoma. Her first job was a carhop at the Queen Bee in Holdenville. She graduated from Holdenville High School in 1961 and attended Oklahoma State University from 1961-1965. After graduation, Jane's brother, Rudolph, and sister-in-law, bought her a one-way bus ticket to California. It took her over 55 years to get back to Oklahoma. Over the next several years she had a wide variety of jobs, from purchasing to corporate contracts for Mitsubishi, Western Bank Corporation, First Interstate Bank and the Los Angeles Herold Examiner.

Jane was married to Norbert Peter Cazabat in 1967.

Jane passed away in Glenpool, Oklahoma on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the age of 81 years.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Lizzie Leader; her father, Jimmie Larney; four brothers: James Mack Larney, Randolph Bruner and wife Frances, Richard Bruner and wife Betty, and Rudolph Bruner.

She is survived by one son, Norbert Stephen Cazabat, and wife, Shauna, of Santa Barbara, California; Grandchildren: Anthony Cazabat (Renee), Aubrey Hopwood (Ben), and Aiyana Cazabat of Santa Barbara, California. Including a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jane enjoyed several hobbies including reading, sewing, Creek History and language. She was also a Creek-Seminole Storyteller. Traveling to Pow-Wows, going out to eat while attending conferences and workshops with colleagues, friends and family. Jane's favorite activity was spending time with her beloved dogs Sergeant Ayo, Rita Rose and Chum Bee the cat.

Jane was laid to rest in the Holdenville Cemetery. A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel, 700 South Broadway, Holdenville, Oklahoma 74848, with a reception following.
