Leach
July 29, 1932 – February 4, 2022
J. D. Leach passed away at his home in Spaulding, Oklahoma on Friday, February 4, 2022, at the age of 89 years.
J. D. was the son of Henry Virgil Leach & Laura Lucinda Abigail (Sherrin) Leach, born on July 29, 1932, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. He was brought up and attended schools in Spaulding, and graduated Spaulding High School with the Class of 1950. He joined the National Guard while attending high school. He married Peggy June Coppedge in 1951. He joined the U.S. Army and served for two years. After living for ten years in Hobbs, New Mexico, J. D. & Peggy returned to Spaulding in 1963 and built the home where they have lived ever since.
In addition to full-time farming and ranching, J. D. worked in various occupations over the years, including Covey, Kingsberry, and Modern Plastics. He retired after working fifteen years for Grade A Stakes, but was always busy with farm/ranch chores and running a yard work service. He always loved raising a big vegetable garden, and had an uncommon talent for growing things. He loved animals and enjoyed raising rabbits, thousands of them over more than thirty years. He liked to fish, and one of his favorite hobbies was woodworking. He was a member of Capitol Heights Missionary Baptist Church. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Laura Leach; one daughter, Terry Steele; one brother, Bill Leach, and three sisters: Betty Collis, Eulafaye Rinehart, and Alta Mae Cutting.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Peggy Leach, of the home; three children: Tim Leach of Holdenville, Tonya Greenlee (Jay) of Perry, and Joey Leach (Jennifer) of Flat Rock, Indiana; eight grandchildren: Christy LaBlanc of Arkansas, Justin Leach (Jo) of Holdenville, Jarrod Murray (Jenae) of Choctaw, Andrea Riggins of Newalla, Erin Greenlee and Matthew Greenlee (Heather), all of Stillwater, Connor Leach and Reese Leach, both of Flat Rock, Indiana; nine great grandchildren: Brittany, Allison, Micah, Jacee, Jake, Megan, Colby, Aubrey, and Katelynn; two great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, 1:00 p.m. at Capitol Heights Missionary Baptist Church and J. D. was laid to rest at Holdenville Cemetery, with Rev. Mack Peercy officiating. Pallbearers were Bruce Woods, Justin Leach, Jarrod Murray, Matthew Greenlee, Jay Greenlee, and Erin Greenlee.
