Ira Theodore 'Ted' Lucas Sr. passed away at his home in Tecumseh, Oklahoma on Wednesday morning, August 6, 2014, at the age of 75 years.
Ted was the son of John James & Naomi (Sullivan) Lucas. He was born on January 24, 1939 in Okemah, Oklahoma, and in childhood moved with his family to California. He was brought up in the Bakersfield area, and as a young man found steady work harvesting in various California orchards. He returned to Oklahoma in the late 1960s and began a long career in construction and concrete, building commercial buildings and bridges. He loved to hang out with family, and he enjoyed fishing. He was married to Jo Ann (Wheeler) Lucas in Gainesville, Texas on May 23, 1986. They lived for a while in Wewoka and in Maud, and for the past several years had made their home in Tecumseh.
Ted is preceded in death by his parents, John & Naomi Lucas; his son, John, in 2011; several brothers.
He is survived by his wife Jo Ann, of the home; two sons, Teddy Lucas of Holdenville and Allen Bellmeyer of Alabama, and stepson Jay Bray of Texas; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Lucas and Gilbert Lucas and wife Wanda, all of Seminole; nieces and nephews, various other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 9, 2014, 3:30 p.m. at the Holdenville Nazarene Church, and Ted will be laid to rest in Glory Cemetery south of Holdenville. Rev. Guy Cagle is the officiating minister. Pallbearers are John Lucas, Jeremy Lucas, Jeff Lucas, Jason Lucas, and Norman Netzel.
