Obituary

Hilly Mae Gunville passed away in Seminole, Oklahoma on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at the age of 73 years.

Hilly was the daughter of Frank & Mandy (Moses) Hill, born on December 2, 1944, in Limestone, Oklahoma. She was brought up in Limestone and attended schools at Limestone, New Lima, and Chilocco Indian School.

She was married in California to James Allen Gunville on August 24, 1967. They lived for a brief while in California, then moved to Wewoka in 1968. They made their home in Wewoka and were blessed with 37 years together before James passed away on January 10, 2005. Hilly moved to Oklahoma City for several years and then to Seminole, her home for the past seven years.

Hilly was a member of Hilltop Presbyterian Church in Wewoka, and generously offered her time in service to her church and to her community. One of the things she loved most was finding wild onions, mushrooms, pecans, and blackberries, and she had an instinctive knowledge of the perfect season for gathering. She loved to cook, and she had the best recipe and made the best fry bread around. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, and she will be very much missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Mandy Hill; her husband, James Gunville; one grandson, Brian Gunville-Quach; one brother, Franklin Hill, and two sisters, Jennie Trevino and Leona Postoak.

She is survived by four children: Carol Gunville of Oklahoma City, Olie Gunville (Antonia), Kevin Gunville (Janelle), and Katie Gunville, all of Seminole; nineteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren; three brothers: Walter Hill of Wewoka, Mickey Hill (Joan) of Seminole, and Charlie Hill (Ruth) of Chandler; two sisters, Edna Harjo of Shawnee and Imogene Carpitcher of Oklahoma City; numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, September 10, 2018, 1:00 p.m. at Hilltop Presbyterian Church in Wewoka, and Hilly was laid to rest at Moses Family Cemetery south of Wewoka. Rev. Danny Faulkner and Rev. Larry Harrison were the officiating ministers. Pallbearers were Cornelius Garcia, Michael Trevino, Aaron Hill, Charles Trevino, Russell Gunville, and Eric Wise. Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Hill, Mickey Hill, Walter Hill, and Jimmy Deatherage.
