George Dennis 'Sonny' Guffey, age 81, was called home by the Lord on August 19, 2010 in Ada, Oklahoma. He was a current resident of Baptist Retirement Village in Ada, Oklahoma.

George Guffey was born January 22, 1929 in Oklahoma to George D. and Edith Naomi (Detrick) Guffey. He married Betty J. Reed November 2, 1954 in Gahanna, Ohio.

George Guffey was a deacon and devout member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. His religion and responsibilities meant much to this grand old man as he never missed church service if it could not be helped,

George retired from the Air Force after 20 years, returning home with his wife. He went back to high school and obtained his high school diploma, and drove the school bus for the school. He worked for Coca-Cola Company, Sooner Supply, B & J Texaco and volunteered many hours at Unity Health Center in Shawnee.

George loved to visit with his friends and go to his brother's farm and enjoy the outdoors and nature,

He is survived by his spouse, Betty Guffey of the home; son Gary Guffey and wife Linda of Gainesville, Georgia; grandsons Andy Guffey and wife Tammy of Conway, Arkansas and Anthony Guffey and wife Jennifer of Sugarland, Texas; two great grandchildren; two brothers, John Guffey and wife Mai of Moore, Oklahoma and Robert 'Bob' Guffey and wife Jean of Gerty, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Terri Guffey Cranford of Shawnee, Oklahoma; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents George & Edith Guffey; sisters Ora Guffey, Jewel Guffey and Rose Campbell, all of Shawnee; brothers Charels Daniel Guffey, Kenneth Guffey and Frank Guffey, all of Shawnee.

There will be visitation at Walker Funeral Home in Shawnee on Sunday, August 22, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Services will be held at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Tecumseh on Monday, August 23, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Mac Peercy officiating. Interment will be at Neal Cemetery in Earlsboro.
