Obituary

Fred Alfred Salazar July 16, 1922 - April 16, 2017 Norman. Following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, Fred Alfred Salazar left this life on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 in Norman Regional Veteran's Center, Norman.

Fred was born to Ben Salazar and Martha (Quentero) Salazar on July 16, 1922 in Oil City, Louisiana. Upon graduation from Moss High School, Fred worked for Stafford Motors. He married the love of his life, Ruby Mae Smith, on May 17, 1942. Fred joined the United States Army Reserves and with the outbreak of World War II he joined the regular Army Signal Corps. Upon his discharge from the Army Fred worked in the San Francisco Ship yards building Liberty Ships. This is where he learned his trade as a welder. He returned to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and worked for Continental Tank and B.S.& B. He loved playing in Baseball, Basketball and Softball Industrial Leagues. He and his wife enjoyed Bowling. He was an avid golfer. In 1952 he moved his family to Orange, California, where he worked in the sheet metal fabrication business. He retired from American Food Service in 1982 and moved to Holdenville, Oklahoma. Fred and Ruby joined many Bowling leagues. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and golfing.

Fred is predeceased by his wife of 73 years, Ruby; his parents, Ben and Martha Salazar; brothers, John Salazar and wife, Opal, and Manual Salazar; sisters, Mary Louise Salazar Sanchez and Betty Salazar Rodriguez and husband, Leo; and half sister Louise Salazar.

He is survived by two sons, Jim and wife, Marsha, of Holdenville, Oklahoma, and Chris Allen and wife, Kathy, of New Concord, Kentucky, and daughter Catherine Gayle Hotop of Riverside, California; four grandsons, Matthew Lauren Salazar Sr. and wife, Mitzi, of Coupeville, Washington, Alex Eugene Salazar and wife, Neena, of Murray KY, Philip James Hotop and Cody Michael Hotop, of Riverside CA, three granddaughters, Brenda Ann Salazar, Oklahoma City, Amanda Renee Hotop, Riverside, and Allison Salazar, New Concord KY; three great grandchildren, Rebecca Josephine Salazar, Matthew Lauren Salazar Jr., and Lucas Joshua Salazar, all of Coupeville WA. His extended family includes half brother, Ben Salazar of Fergus Falls MN.

Fred was a much loved member of our family and will be dearly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The viewing will be held Friday, April 21, 2017, at Fisher Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the Holdenville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
