Fred O. Netzel passed away at his home in Holdenville on Tuesday morning, September 15, 2015, at the age of 87 years.
Fred was the son of Julius August Netzel & Anna (Johnson) Netzel, born on September 19, 1927, in Childress, Texas. He was brought up in New Mexico and attended schools at Causey and Portales. He married Shirley J. Gray on June 5, 1963, in Wewoka, Oklahoma. They moved temporarily to Holdenville in the early 1970s, returned to New Mexico, and moved back to Holdenville again in the early 1990s. Shirley passed away in Holdenville on October 10, 2008, at the age of 68.
Fred was an auto mechanic by trade, and liked to work on tractors and any other vehicle or motor needing repair. He also enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, and raising and fighting roosters.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 45 years, Shirley June Netzel; his daughter, Florene Gordon, son-in-law Jimmy Buys, and son-in-law John Lucas.
He is survived by four children: Deana Lucas and Norman Netzel, both of Holdenville, Cat Sites of Amarillo, Texas, and Becky Buys of Midland Texas; twelve grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; son-in-law Joe Gordon of Portales, New Mexico; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, September 18, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Holdenville, with Randy Madron and Rev. Rick Madron officiating. Fred was laid to rest in Glory Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Lucas, Jeff Lucas, Jason Lucas, Phillip Netzel, James Buys, Don Merriman, and Jackie Siegrist.
