Evelyn Loraine Haley passed away at Heritage Village Nursing Home in Holdenville on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at the age of 80 years.
Evelyn was the daughter of Roy & Jennie Stephens, born on January 19, 1932, in Goldfield, Nevada. She was brought up in California and graduated Galt High School in Galt, California. In 1949, on a hay-hauling trip with her dad in Merced, California, she met Elmer Haley, and married him on October 15, 1955, in Poplarsville, Mississippi. They returned to California and lived for ten years in Merced, moved to Oklahoma City in 1965, and then to Holdenville, their home since 1970.
Elmer & Evelyn owned and operated the Daylight Donut Shop on Main Street in Holdenville for seven years. Evelyn enjoyed various other business ventures including The Denim Shop and The Record Shop. Her voice was familiar to many in the Hughes County area when she was a D.J. for Holdenville's radio station KVYL. She enjoyed crafts, and loved flowers.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and one brother.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Elmer Haley, of the home; her daughter, Judy Lee Burris of Holdenville; two grandchildren, Cherra Lea LaFleur and Dawn Ember Tobar, both of Amarillo, Texas; five great-grandchildren: Jade, Cabrena, Tiffany, Trenton, and Taggart; two great great grandchildren, Aries and Oryan; various other relatives, and many friends.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012, and Evelyn will be laid to rest in the Holdenville Cemetery, with Rev. Dane Robinson officiating.
