Evelyn Mae 'Babe' McGirt passed away in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the age of 82 years.
Evelyn was the daughter of Jimmy Larney & Sallie (Lowe) Larney, born on January 23, 1931, at Coweta, Oklahoma. She was brought up in the Gum Springs area, and attended schools at Gum Springs and Capitol Heights in Holdenville. She was married to Ronald McGirt in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, in 1969. He preceded her in death in July of 1976.
Evelyn worked many years as a nurse's assistant - 8 years at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, 8 years at Holdenville General Hospital, 4 years at Boyce Manor Nursing Home in Holdenville, and 4 years at Creek Nation Community Hospital in Okemah. She worked several more years as an in-home provider for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, retiring in the mid 1980s.
She was a long-time member of the Yeager Indian Methodist Church, and most recently was a member for many years of the Many Springs Indian Baptist Church. She loved word-find puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and drawing, and she loved to read her Bible.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy & Sallie Larney; two sons, Jimmy Lee Powell and John Newman Puller; two brothers, James Larney and Billy Larney, and two sisters, Bertha Rabbit and Lucy Sewell.
She is survived by one daughter, Jensie Jimboy of Holdenville; five grandchildren: Shelly Yargee of Tulsa, Rondella Clay of Holdenville, Angie Nunnally and husband Chad, also of Holdenville, David Jimboy Jr. and wife Heidi, of Spokane, Washington, and James Jimboy of Holdenville; nine great-grandchildren: Mahaya Yargee, Brent Clay, Taran Clay, Alisha Yargee, Cason Silva, Mikayla Jimboy, Nakota Jimboy, Noah Jimboy, and Paizley Nunnally; two great great grandchildren, Arianna Bell and Avan Yargee; one brother and sister-in-law, Ben & Anita Larney of Holdenville; two sisters, Ellen Burgess of Konawa and Millie Clapp of Greensboro, North Carolina; a very close friend, Ollie Harrison of Palm Springs, California; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
There will be a wake service on Sunday, April 7, 7:00 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home's Lillye Chapel.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 8, 2:00 p.m. at Many Springs Indian Baptist Church, with procession from the funeral home to the church at 10:00 a.m. Monday morning.
Interment will be in the Wewoka Methodist Church Cemetery near Yeager.
Rev. Jimmy Anderson and Rev. Frank Moppin are the officiating ministers.
Pallbearers are Sanders McLemore, T. J. Jesse, Katcv Larney, Bonnie Jimboy, Spooky Jimboy, and Nick McGirt.
Honorary pallbearers are Chris McGirt, Christopher Scott, Amos Rabbit, Mac Rabbit, Bobby Larney, Ricky Larney, and David Jimboy Sr.
