Esther 'Esta' Billy of Holdenville passed away at Mercy Memorial Health Center in Ardmore, Oklahoma on Saturday, August 7, 2010, at the age of 49 years.
Esta was the daughter of Joseph Harjo & Gladys (Jackson) Harjo, born on April 14, 1961, in Oklahoma City. She was brought up in the Hanna/Vernon area, and attended schools at Hanna. She spent most of her life there before moving to Holdenville, her home for the past twelve years. She was married to Zerndorf 'Zernie' Billy on April 16, 1981, at Eufaula, Oklahoma. She was a member of the Peach Grand Ceremonial Ground southwest of Hanna, and she enjoyed making womens' ceremonial shells for the stompground.
Esta is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph & Gladys Harjo; her grandparents, Samuel & Alice Jackson; her great-grandparents, Che-cote' & Allie Harjo, and Lena Homate' Jackson; one brother, Thomas James Harjo, and three sisters: Josephine Harjo, Rhonda Kay Harjo, and Lillian Tiger.
She is survived by her husband, Zernie, of the home; six children: Zerndorf 'Corndogg' Billy, Jr., Sheena Billy, Kesha Piza, Victor Billy, Joseph Billy, and Nevaeh Billy; ten grandchildren: Alijah, Geronimo, Leah-lah, Bubba, Jordan, Athena, Aiyana, Amiya, Mike, and Virginia; five brothers: William Harjo, Eugene Harjo, Samuel Harjo, Phillip Harjo, and Nathaniel Harjo; one sister, Louise Harjo; adopted brother, Sam 'Spock' Proctor, Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Services will be held at Faith Baptist Church in Dustin, Oklahoma, wake at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10, and funeral at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11. Esta will be laid to rest in the Jackson Family Cemetery at Vernon, Oklahoma. Officiating ministers are Rev. Nathaniel Harjo and Rev. Richard Fixico. Pallbearers are Robert Soloman, Billy Ray Harley, J. D. Harley, Billy Hill, Bodee Hicks, Evarett Jackson, Bruce Harjo, and Sam Proctor, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Piza, Humberto Piza, Geronimo Billy, Aaron Harjo, Stormy Harjo, Cyrus Harjo, Sonny Boy Harjo and Katev Larney.
