Elvin Turpin passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at his home south of Calvin, Oklahoma, at the age of 87 years.
Elvin was born March 29, 1925, in Seminole, Oklahoma, to Melvin & Mary Etta (Cherry) Turpin. He married Iva Raney January 2, 1953, in Van Buren, Arkansas, and they made their home in Calvin, Oklahoma.
Elvin graduated from Gerty High School and entered the military branch of the United States Coast Guard. He operated the Turpin Brothers Sand & Gravel business in Non, Oklahoma for several years. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He loved looking after his cattle. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin & Mary Etta Turpin; two brothers, Leon Turpin and James Turpin, and one sister, Ruth Tipton.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Iva Turpin, of the home; two sons, Hank Turpin and Keith Turpin, both of Calvin; four grandchildren: Ericka, Angey, Cody, and Vicky; thirteen great grandchildren; three brothers: Paul Turpin of Calvin, Gene Turpin of Atwood, Ralph Turpin of Allen; four sisters: Kathleen Raney of Calvin, Margaret Levingston of Allen, Shirley Ellis of Stuart, Pauline Johnson of Lindale, Texas; numerous nephews and nieces, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 4, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at the Calvin School Auditorium, and Elvin will be laid to rest in the Gerty Cemetery, Gerty, Oklahoma. Rev. Buddy Baltimore is the officiating minister. Pallbearers are Melvin Turpin, Charles Tipton, Gary Raney, Gil Turpin, Greg Turpin, Shelly Turpin, Stephen Holland, and Paul Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Fred Russell, Tom Pettigrew, Jerry Tollett, Tommy Orr, C. L. Thornton, and Leon Russell.
