Elmer J. Haley passed away in Talihina, Oklahoma on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at the age of 87 years.
Elmer was the son of Elmer & Ora Lee (Arthur) Haley, born on June 10, 1929, in McAlester, Oklahoma. He served his country during the Korean War, in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marines.
He met Evelyn Stephens in Merced, California, where she was on a hay-hauling trip with her dad. He married Evelyn on October 15, 1955, in Poplarsville, Mississippi. They returned to California and lived for ten years in Merced, moved to Oklahoma City in 1965, and then to Holdenville, their home since 1970.
Elmer was a truck driver by trade. In 1970 he and Evelyn opened the Daylight Donut Shop on Main Street in Holdenville, which they owned and operated for seven years. They were blessed with 56 years together before Evelyn passed away on March 21, 2012.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Loraine Haley, and their daughter, Judy Burris.
He is survived by two granddaughters, Cherra Lea LaFleur and Dawn Ember Tobar, both of Amarillo, Texas; five great-grandchildren: Jade, Cabrena, Tiffany, Trenton, and Taggart; two great great grandchildren, Aries and Oryan; various other relatives, and many friends, including special friends Jean Camp and Lanita Anderson.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, 3:30 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home's Lilly Chapel, and Elmer was laid to rest in the Holdenville Cemetery.
