Eldon Leon McCoy passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2014 in Bossier City, Louisiana, at the age of 66 years.
Eldon was the son of Samuel S. McCoy & Cliffie Opal (Wagoner) McCoy, born on August 20, 1947, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. He was brought up in the Lamar area, and attended Lamar and Moss schools. He began his lifelong occupation in construction at the age of 17.
Eldon married Patsy Jenkins in Holdenville on February 19, 1966. They lived in various places while Eldon worked for several construction companies, including Excaliber of Houston, Texas, United General Contractors, and Neosho Construction out of Kansas, his employer for thirty years. He had worked the past 2-1/2 years as Superintendent of Construction for Polivka International, building sidings for the railroad in Bossier City/Shreveport, Louisiana.
Eldon loved his work in railroad construction, and he loved working on his farm and taking care of his cattle. He enjoyed fishing, and was a devoted fan of OU football and of Barry Switzer, his favorite coach.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam & Cliffie McCoy; two infant great grandchildren, the Mooney-Downey twins; six brothers: Frank McCoy, Leonard McCoy, Dee McCoy, Glenn McCoy, Gerald McCoy, and Leroy McCoy; two sisters, Thelma Missoula and Juanita McCoy.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patsy, of the home; four children: Cheryl Downey and husband Tony, Robby McCoy and wife Stephanie, Angie McCoy and spouse Jason Baxter, and Jeremy McCoy, all of Holdenville; fourteen grandchildren: Andrew Downey, Derek Downey, Robert McCoy, Chasisty Merriman, Jordan Merriman, Jace McCoy, Bentley McCoy, Dillon Peters, Zachary Downey, Tyler Downey, Cheyenne Downey, Shane Peters, Brent Peters, and Amber Peters; one great granddaughter, Kadie; two sisters, Imogene Cantrell and husband Ray of California, and Christine McCoy of Holdenville; one brother, Pete McCoy and wife Faye of Donie, Texas; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be Monday, February 10, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the Holdenville Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Rev. Larry Chesser and Rev. Tony Chesser officiating. Eldon will be laid to rest in Lamar Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jason Baxter, Dennis Langdon, Chris Jones, Micah Mitchon, Steven Branscum, and Dillon Peters. Honorary pallbearers are Harry Stillwagon, Andrew Downey, Derek Downey, Pete McCoy, Tony Downey, Jeremy McCoy, Robby McCoy, Jordan Merriman, Robert McCoy, and Jace McCoy.
Friends are welcome to visit and sign the guest book at any time from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday (February 7 & 8), and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday (February 9).
