Obituary

Donald Ray Hartsfield, age 74, of Houston, Texas, passed away on November 13, 2018 at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Donald Ray was born on June 3, 1944, at West Helena, Arkansas to Ervin Lee Hartsfield and Ruby Berniece (Carroll) Hartsfield.

Born the fourth of seven brothers, Donald's personality was that of a middle child: shy, quiet, with a loner mentality. But he was still content, happy and loved sitting back quietly watching his brothers and other members of his huge family, talking over each other and laughing at jokes made. He enjoyed the numerous family get togethers held throughout the year - brisket cookouts, football gatherings, holidays, brothers playing music and singing together. Camping at the lake, fishing, and hunting were just a few of the other activities he found joy in life doing with his large family. Donald would often bring family to uncontrolled laughter when he stepped out of his safety net and told stories and such. His sense of humor was to be there for, though.

He was married to the love of his life, Bonnie, until she passed away in January, 1995.

He worked many years in the drywall profession with several of his brothers. In his last years, before retirement, he worked as a caretaker for the cemetery where he will be laid to rest.

After retirement, he moved to Kilgore, Texas with his youngest brother Doug, for thirteen years, until they both moved to Sasakwa, Oklahoma in June 2017, in order to be closer to two of their nieces and families. Donald resided there until his passing.

Donald Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Ruby Hartsfield; three brothers: William Abner, Christopher Lee, and Patrick Kelly Hartsfield, and one sister, Ruby Sue Hartsfield.
He is survived by one son, Ervin James Hartsfield of Casa Grande, Arizona; three brothers: Leon Mcloyd, Ervin Carroll, and Douglas T Hartsfield; numerous nieces and nephews, along with many cousins and extended family members not mentioned.

Donald Ray's memorial and viewing was held at Fisher Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon, November 20, and then Donald was taken on his last car ride as Fisher transported him down to his final resting place in Texas. He was laid to rest between his wife, Bonnie, and his mother, Ruby, at Calvary Hills Cemetery in Humble, Texas, at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21.
