Dixie Jo
Adair
October 17, 1925 – September 1, 2025
Dixie Jo Adair, 99, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 17, 1925, in Mangum, Oklahoma, to Henry Dekalb Stelter and Carrie Lucille (Hudson) Stelter.
Dixie grew up in the Hickory Grove Community near Holdenville, Oklahoma, alongside her six siblings: Lofton, Franco, Lois, Lenora, Louise, and Henry. In July 1942, she married the love of her life, Thomas Marvin 'Jr.' Adair, while he was working in Michigan. Together they built a beautiful life and raised five children.
She is survived by her children: Patty Whitehead of Summerville Alabama, and her children, Kim, Mike, and Kari; Tommy Adair and wife Evelyn of Greenwood, Arkansas, with their children, Angela and Brad; Judy Cantrell and husband Loyd of Norman, Oklahoma, with their children, Missy and Kevin; Ricky Adair and wife Sheri of Celeste, Texas, with their son, Josh; Gail Heald and husband Ken of Norman, Oklahoma, with their sons, Blake and KC.; Dixie was also blessed with twelve great-grandchildren, each of whom brought joy to her long life. She held a special place in her heart for all her nieces and nephews and was the last remaining member of the Stelter family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-nine years, Jr., who passed away on July 12, 2002. After his passing, Dixie moved to Norman to be closer to her family. She shared a special bond with her grandson, Blake, who lived with her and cared for her for many years.
Dixie's life was filled with creativity, passion, and love. She was a gifted artist who poured her heart into painting, scrapbooking, card making, and especially wood decorations. Her work was admired at countless shows, where her talent and imagination shone brightly.
She also had a deep love for cooking and gathering people around the table. Feeding family and friends was her way of showing love, often reminding them with a smile, "You have to eat to keep from being hungry."
Dixie will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and a woman whose warmth, creativity, and strength touched everyone who knew her. She always carried a bright smile, owed to her motto: "I'm going to make it a good day."
Funeral services were held on Friday, September 5, 2025, 2:00pm at Holdenville Cemetery Chapel, with tribute by Phil Johnson.
