Derek Tyler
Puckett
October 5, 1989 – February 16, 2025
Derek Tyler Puckett passed away in Spaulding, Oklahoma on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the age of 35 years.
Derek is the son of Buster & Pam Venable, born on October 5, 1989, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He was brought up in Holdenville, Oklahoma and attended schools in Holdenville and Moss before graduating Sasakwa High School with the Class of 2008. He married Ashley Bean in Holdenville on July 31, 2010. He traveled many miles chasing work pipelining and wind turbines, and operating heavy equipment. He loved pushing dirt and was always snap-chatting himself on the dozer. He met so many friends on the road, and he loved them all.
Derek loved his People. He loved to laugh. He was always down for having a good time, and always looking for adventures. He said his initials 'DTP' stood for "Disturbing The Peace". In his spare time, he wanted to go fast. He grew up on the South Canadian River and it was his favorite place in the world. He went to the river every chance he got, it was where he was in his element going fast, riding wheelies for days, and cutting up with his people. He loved watching football and talking trash when his team was winning. The Dallas Cowboys was his favorite team, and when they were losing he had his Kansas City Chiefs. He was always getting his nephews to say, "Chop, chop" to get on his mom's nerves. He was a huge Star Wars fan, and loved all the Marvel movies.
We will miss his mischievousness, his corny jokes and his laugh but we will never forget. We will keep his memory alive although nothing will ever be the same without him.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Puckett; grandparents Sonny Sherrin, and Joyce & Allen Puckett.
He is survived by his wife of fourteen years, Ashley Pucket, and their children: Lane and Logan, of the home, and Karina, of Calvin; his parents, Pam & Buster Venable of Holdenville; siblings and spouses: Kayla & Tyler Jarrett and their children: Bryson, Reese, and Rucker, all of Holdenville; Marissa & Lane Brady and their children, Hailynn and Kennedy, all of Ada; Chase Puckett and his son, Mason, of Shawnee; grandparents Judy Sherrin of Shawnee, Jackie Venable and Charlotte Venable, of Holdenville; other family members and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, 2:00pm at First Church of the Nazarene in Holdenville, and Derek was laid to rest at Holdenville Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Jett officiating. Pallbearers were Jon Cross, Kolt Rossman, Patrick Wyrick, Jesse Howard, Miles Alford, Paul Johnson, Alan Wroolie, and Colton Pierce.
