April 25, 1928 – December 2, 2024
Della Kathryn 'Katie' Sossamon passed away in Holdenville, Oklahoma on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the age of nine-six years.
Della is the daughter of Virgil & Gladine (Anderson) Cross, born on April 25, 1928 in Yukon, Oklahoma, the third of their nine children. Her early years were spent in the Yukon area until the family moved in the early 1930s to Spaulding, where she was brought up and attended schools. She was married to George Madron in Van Buren, Arkansas on September 9, 1950, and they were the parents of seven children: George, Rosette, Ruth, Wayne, Kay, Vicky, and Rick. She was later married on November 9, 1981 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to T. J. Sossamon, who preceded her in death in November of 1998.
Della worked for many years as a CNA/CMA nurse's aide, but she was a homemaker at heart and her family was her priority. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery, cooking, and flower gardening. She was sentimental and creative, and loved writing poetry and singing, and Betty Boop cartoons. She loved her Bible and her favorite scripture was Chapter 14 in the book of John.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil & Gladine Cross; her husband, T. J. Sossamon; two children, daughter Ruth Richardson, and son Wayne Madron; three sisters: Irene Cooper, Christine Summerton, and Ruth Cullum; two brothers, David 'L. D.' Cross, and Edsil Cross.
She is survived by five children: George Madron of Fitzhugh, Rosette Merriman (Dirl) of Holdenville, Kay Ethridge (Randy) of Stroud, Vicky Brooks (Jackie) of Connerville, and Rick Madron (Susan) of Holdenville; thirty-seven grandchildren, ninety-eight great grandchildren, and sixty-one great great grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Robinson of Seminole and Lois Madron of Wewoka, and one brother, Lloyd Cross (Judy) of Spaulding; two stepdaughters, Shannon Posey and Mary Owens; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, December 7, 2024, 2:00pm at Legacy Church in Holdenville, and Della was laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka with Rev. Randy Ethridge officiating. Pallbearers were Jackie Brooks, Justin Harris, Rick Cullum, Brad Madron, Mike Madron, Jon Heffley, Sean Harris, and Cameron Ethridge.
