David Bruce Dodd's Obituary
David Bruce Dodd, 81, passed away on Friday evening, July 1, 2011 at his home west of Wewoka.
David was the son of David Schenk Dodd & Stella (Hutchinson) Dodd. He was born on May 31, 1930, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, and was brought up and attended schools in the Wewoka area. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served from 1947 till 1950.
David married Margie Gaines on August 20, 1953, in Wewoka. They lived a few years in Wewoka and in Oklahoma City, then moved to Michigan, where David worked driving school buses. They lived for twenty-four years in Michigan, returning home to Wewoka in 1995.
David enjoyed spending leisure time reading or playing dominoes. He and Margie were members of the Assembly of God Church in Bowlegs, and regular visitors to the Wewoka Senior Citizen Center, where David's sunny disposition and sense of humor made him a favorite with everyone.
He is preceded in death by his parents, David & Stella Dodd, and three sisters: Corrine Penson, Deloris Ferran and Kay Smith.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Margie, of the home; three children: Linda Isbell and David Dodd, Jr., both of Wewoka, and William Dodd of Clarkston, Michigan; nine grandchildren: Jennifer Rowe of Michigan, Muffin Bullock of Mangum, Oklahoma, Elizabeth Welch of Midwest City, Erin Dodd of Michigan, David B. Dodd III of Pontiac, Michigan, Katina Dodd of Florida, William Dodd, Jr., Tiffany Dodd and LaDea Dodd, all of Michigan; eleven great grandchildren: Jonathan, Safe, Abe, Mackinsie, Serenity, Kelcia, Jerrod, Trinity, Savannah, Jasman and Bella; one great great granddaughter, Mollie; one brother, Jerry Dodd and wife Claire, of Tennessee; four sisters: Betty Morgan of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Mary Hill and Jane Arnold, both of Edmond, Oklahoma and Leeta Johnson of Texarkana, Arkansas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 5, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Bowlegs, Oklahoma, and David will be laid to rest in the Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka. Rev. Roy Roberson is the officiating minister. Pallbearers are David Dodd, Jr., William Dodd, Steve Walton, Greg Walton, Lee Gammons and Karl Krause.
Hours of visitation are Sunday, July 3, and Monday, July 4, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Services are under direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville.
