Cora Ellen
Flowers
May 4, 1928 – April 13, 2014
Cora Ellen Flowers passed away in Norman, Oklahoma on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at the age of 85 years.
Cora was the daughter of Bufford Alvin Crow & Jewel (Griffin) Crow, born on May 4, 1928, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. She was brought up and attended schools in the Holdenville area. She was married to Kenneth Farr in January of 1946, and they were the parents of two children, Ken and Janice. Kenneth passed away in 1975. In 1977, Cora married William Eli Flowers, who preceded her in death in 2009.
Cora put her heart in everything she did, and enjoyed life to the fullest. She helped with her husband's construction business, and was never short of things she wanted to do when she had time of her own. She loved the quiet solitude of reading a good book or writing in her journal, which she did daily for nearly all her life, creating a priceless record of family history in her own elegant handwriting. She loved horses, she loved fishing, she loved playing ball with her grandson. She loved music and dancing, and her family called her the Dancing Queen. She especially enjoyed bebop dancing with granddaughter Kendra to Dan Seals' hit song 'Bop'.
Above all, Cora loved her family, and cared for other people. In her younger years she would lend a hand to anyone whenever she could, sometimes taking in children for a while to help out other families. In later years when her health failed, her concern was constant for others. No matter how sick she was and in spite of the pain she felt, she only wanted to know how everyone else was doing. She was full of appreciation for all the good in her life, and full of kindness and generosity for others. She will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bufford & Jewel Crow; her husband and father of her children, Kenneth Farr, and her second husband, William Flowers; one son, Terry, in 1980; two brothers, Alvin 'Bo' Crow and Tommy Gene Crow, and one sister, Ruth Brinlee.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Farr (Brenda), and her daughter, Janice (David) Williams, all of Norman; four grandchildren: Chris Farr, Jason Farr, Kendra Williams (Darrin), all of Norman, and Amy Jones (Marci Kistler) of Oklahoma City; ten great-grandchildren: Nathen, Katelyn, Jacob, Taylor, Dax, Izabel, Seth, Elly, Esme, and Daniel; two sisters, Jo Ann Kelley of Holdenville and Charlene Sue Sanders of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Jim Crow and Billy Crow, both of Kalispell, Montana; numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.
Cora will be laid to rest in the Holdenville Cemetery following funeral services at the Holdenville Cemetery Chapel on Friday, April 18, 2014, 2:00 p.m. Rev. Dane Robinson is the officiating minister. Pallbearers are Chris Farr, Jason Farr, Darrin Williams, Derrick Allen, and Tyler Bible.
