Clyde La'Vaughn Byerly passed away at his home in Holdenville, Oklahoma on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the age of 87 years.
Clyde is the son of George O. Byerly & Ethel (Garner) Byerly, born on April 11, 1937, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. He was brought up and attended schools in the Spaulding community, graduating Spaulding High School with the Class of 1953. Following graduation he joined the U.S. Army National Guard and served two years. He married Sybil Jane Whitlock on May 17, 1956, in Hobbs, New Mexico. They made their home in Holdenville, where Clyde worked at many and varied occupations. He drove trucks, worked in the oil field, worked for the City of Holdenville as Lake Ranger and Airport Manager, and owned and operated his own business, Last Chance Saloon in Holdenville. Clyde enjoyed life and loved nothing more than drinking beer with his buddies and arguing about anything with anybody. He will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George & Ethel Byerly; his wife of 52 years, Sybil Byerly, on January 6, 2008; his daughter, Cheryl Woolard; six brothers and one sister.
He is survived by two children: Tammy Neil of New Lima, and Lance Byerly of the home; four grandchildren: Hayley Hamilton (Silas) of Holdenville, Cassie Northcott of Durant, Brandon Pasley of Oklahoma City, and Tara Miers of Wetumka; eight great-grandchildren: Hannah Armstead (Ryan), Triniti House, Danielle Swift (Garison Bible), Nolan Northcott, Nate Northcott, Jaxon Hamilton, Trenton Miers, and Paige Miers; two great-great-grandchildren, Elliott and Kooper; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, 1:00pm at First Baptist Church in Holdenville. Honorary pallbearers were Wendell Cherry, Daniel Graham, Bruce Byerly, Kenny Byerly, and Claude Byerly.
